Art Appreciation Course Content Only

This is a one semester course, or a half high school credit. Students will analyze art work and produce written art criticism as they learn about artists and view a wide range of works from the Gothic period through World War II.

*NOTE: Much of this content is used by All In One Highschool and was orginally from the Poway Unified School District  site which is no longer active and available. I've moved the content here to my site to ensure it's stays accessible and to update the look and feel of the content to a modern site.

Welcome!

The purpose of this assignment is to help teach students to interpret and analyze art. This will provide students with the ability to view and describe art using new vocabulary to express themselves and better understand artwork and the world around them. At the end of this assignment, students will be able to demonstrate understanding and explain relationships in art. Students will be able to go far beyond simply identifying what they like and don’t like when it comes to art. They will be able to apply the elements and principles of art to existing works using applicable vocabulary.

The echo of your laughter fades among the stones— the wine has soured, and the revelry below has turned to dread. You have escaped the catacombs, yet no mortal can flee the dance of decay forever. Beyond these doors awaits a masquerade of beauty and despair, where time itself tolls the hour. Step forward, if you dare, and enter the fourth chamber.

Thy heartbeat stills— the floorboards have spoken, and the truth lies buried no more. Thou hast endured the raving pulse of guilt and proved thy nerve unbroken. Ahead, a darker passage calls: descend now into the vaults where casks and secrets sleep. Click Enter below, and taste the dread vintage of the third chamber.

Thou hast triumphed in the first of trials. The shadowed chamber yields, and its iron clasp is broken. Yet beyond this fleeting freedom lies another depth of dread. Shouldst thou possess the courage to proceed, click Enter below— and descend into the second chamber…

At last, weary traveler, you have emerged from the five chambers, your courage tested and your wits proven. Rest now, for the shadows have been tamed by your resolve.
